Join us in June as we celebrate America's 250th Anniversary with vintage inspired penny rug bookmarks! Penny rugs are a unique and colorful American craft. They are decorative mats made of stitched wool circles, often featuring appliquéd designs like farmhouses, animals, and flowers. The craft originated when homemakers repurposed scraps of wool or felt from old clothing, creating durable and practical mats. The name "penny rugs" comes from the use of pennies as templates for measuring the top layer of circles. Over time, crafters added decorative edgings and began incorporating folk stories into their designs. These kits are intended for adults and will be available on Tuesday, June 9th, in the Library Rotunda while supplies last. For more information about this craft please contact Yvonne Loomis at 624-6550 ext. 7647 or e-mail yloomis@manchesternh.gov. Happy crafting!
