Step into worlds where the ordinary gives way to the extraordinary in this four-week film lecture series exploring magic, miracles, ghosts, and the supernatural in cinema. Each film will be preceded by a short film lecture by Doug. Free and open to all. Registration recommended. October 28 - Pan's Labyrinth (2006) Five years after the Spanish Civil War, young Ofelia and her mother go to live in the countryside with her new stepfather, a sadistic captain in Franco's army. The violent reality of fascism which she experiences merges seamlessly with a fantastical interior world when she meets a faun in a decaying labyrinth, and is sent on a strange mythic journey that is both terrifying and beautiful.
