Drawing the Revolution: Local History and Storytelling through Zines
Join cartoonist, Marek Bennett, in a discussion on how local history and the 250th revolution combine in community storytelling in his zine workshops. This is a hybrid event. Join us in person in the Mayer Room or online via Zoom. No registration required in person; register for Zoom here. In this presentation, Marek will share how he draws from archival documents, photographs, oral histories, and other primary sources to craft visually compelling and historically grounded comics about local events and people. Marek Bennett is a NH-based cartoonist, musician, and educator who leads discovery-based comics workshops for all ages throughout New England and the world beyond! His comics work includes the graphic novel series, The Civil War Diary of Freeman Colby, as well as drawing, translating, & editing for The Most Costly Journey (2021) with the bilingual El Viaje Project. In September 2022, both books were featured at the National Book Festival in Washington DC. This event is co-sponsored by the Hanover Historical Society.
