Howe Fall Writing Workshops with April Ossmann

Poet and author April Ossmann will offer three writing workshops this fall in October, November, and December. Each of these workshops will take place between 5:30pm-7:00pm. You may attend any one of these or all sessions, but you must sign-up beforehand. There is no cost to attend. Registration is required. These workshops will be offered hybrid: you may attend in person or online (Zoom registrations will be sent to participants before each workshop). To attend via Zoom scroll down to the link below. For each workshop, with the goal of developing poetic mastery and exercising our wild sides with the inspiration the form can offer, we will read a prompt prose poem and discuss the poetic techniques it employs, then do timed free-writing and read the results aloud for pleasure. The themes for the three prose poem workshops will be: 5:30pm, Tuesday, October 6, 2026: Let’s bite off more than we can chew: fun with idioms. 5:30pm, Tuesday, November 3, 2026: Self-portrait as a dog or cat. 5:30pm, Tuesday, December 1, 2026: Imagine your own birth. To attend via Zoom, click here. April Ossmann is an award-winning poet, editor, and teacher whose work has earned national recognition for its insight, craftsmanship, and emotional depth. She is the author of three poetry collections: We (2025), Event Boundaries (a finalist for the Vermont Book Award), and Anxious Music. Her poems and essays have appeared in numerous literary journals, anthologies, Poets & Writers, and the Poetry Foundation. A longtime advocate for writers, she previously served as executive director of Alice James Books and now works as an independent editor and writing coach, helping writers develop and refine their work. A graduate of Dartmouth College and the Vermont College of Fine Arts, Ossmann is a resident of the Upper Valley, where she continues to teach poetry workshops and private tutorials.
