Join us for the opening reception of Marjorie Rose's exhibit, "Finding Joy" from 2:00 - 4:00 pm in the Ledyard Gallery. Light refreshments provided. "Marjorie Rose started her career as a professional economist, spending nearly a decade at the International Monetary Fund helping developing countries design economic policies. In 1997, she joined the faculty at Dartmouth College where she taught for the past three decades. She fed her “left brain” needs in Hanover directing children’s theatre, playing guitar in two country music groups, and taking up painting, mostly dogs, for the past 15 years. Rose has no formal art education, but describes herself as “classically trained” i.e., she learned to paint by mimicking works by the masters/professional artists to learn about color, value, light, perspective, etc. Rose had a popular exhibit of her dog paintings at the Ledyard Gallery in 2023. “Finding Joy” is the theme of her new exhibit for June 2026 which aims at bringing light into the darkness in these uncertain times. The show includes paintings that attempt to capture the simple, joyful moments in peoples—and dogs—lives that she completed after her recent retirement. The show also includes a range of other subjects that have intrigued her over the years, including some economics art, colorful landscapes, and crazy, colorful abstracts. Rose, a Taylor Swift fan, describes it as her “Eras Exhibit” in her art journey." Marjorie's exhibit will be on display through July 29th, 2026.
