Join Marilee Lin for more information on her new Makers & Menders group at the library. SATURDAY, MAY 30 10:00 AM - NOON In Library Maker Space Coffee & Treats No Registration Necessary See Examples & Mini Demos Mending and Repair: a shared interest group and learning circle How can we join together to build a movement toward creative repair within a wider culture of disposability and consumerism? How can we shift our mindset toward fixing and keeping, rather than throwing away and buying more? It’s a matter of sustainable practice, to be sure, but it’s also about reclaiming our own human ingenuity, resourcefulness, and manual skill. This group is open to anyone wanting to learn the art of mending – darning and hand-sewing – as well as the basics of machine-sewing. In addition, we will explore kintsugi, the Japanese art of artfully “mending” broken ceramic or wood pieces. We welcome tinkerers, tool-users, and crafters who share an interest in preserving and enhancing what we already have and who seek the satisfaction of active problem-solving, working with our hands, and screen-free activity.
