Moanin' in the Moonlight: The Rise and Fall of the Delta Blues

Join Brandon K. Gauthier, a historian and blues musician from LEE & DR. G, for a multimedia presentation on the history of Delta Blues. The talk traces the roots of this essential musical tradition through the stunning lives and extraordinary music of Robert Johnson, Son House, and Memphis Minnie, as well as artists who began in the Mississippi Delta before electrifying Chicago blues, including Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters. Along the way, Dr. Gauthier will explore the myths and historical realities that shaped the birth of this profound musical genre. The program will feature period musical instruments, archival video, and live musical demonstrations with audience participation to bring the history of the Delta Blues to life.
