This event is free and open to all! No registration required. The Calla Duo is a Boston based ensemble dedicated to bringing accessible classical music concerts to the community. Performing both formal recitals and outreach performances, the goal is always to challenge new audiences to explore the world of classical music. About the Artists: Maya Lynn is a violinist dedicated to the exploration of cross-disciplinary studies, and works to build programs exploring the relationship between music and literature by bringing her background and expertise in English Literature to the concert hall stage. Maya is currently pursuing a Masters of Music in Violin Performance at Boston University, and holds a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Boston University. Maya has performed multiple lecture style recitals, creating links between music, art, and literature. In addition, Maya has been featured as a soloist for Northern Stage’s production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. Her performance in the production was credited by the White River Valley Herald as being “a treat of the evening … which knit together different scenes in the production”. Maya collaborated with the artistic director to build a soundscape for the production using violin masterpieces. Maya is currently an active freelancer in the Boston area. She has performed with orchestras such as the Rhode Island Philharmonic, Cape Symphony, New Bedford Symphony, Plymouth Philharmonic, Portsmouth Symphony, and is a scholarship artist with the Boston Civic Symphony. Maya has studied with renowned teachers such as Dr. Minju Kim, Yuri Mazurkevich, Dr. Minju Kim, Bayla Keyes, Lucia Lin, Kathy Andrew, and Peter Rovit. She has been coached by Simon James, Lucia Lin, and Nathan Giem and has performed in masterclasses with Grigory Kalinovsky, Sebastian Mueller, James Stern, Alexi Kenney, Kristin Lee, and Lucy Chapman. When not performing or practicing, Maya enjoys reading, baking and cooking, spending time with her family and siblings, and watching the Great British Bake-off with a mug of hot tea. Abby Hanna is a 23 year old cellist and vocalist, recognized for her versatility as a soloist, orchestral musician, and chamber performer. She is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in Cello Performance at Boston University after earning her Bachelor of Music degree on a full-tuition scholarship from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied under Steven Doane and Rosemary Elliott. Abby began studying piano at age five and cello at age nine. Since then, her musical career has taken her from Austria to Argentina to stages across the United States. Most recently, she was awarded second place in the 2025 MIMA Young Artist Competition in Los Angeles, and received the 2023 New York Federation of Music Award at the Chautauqua Institution in New York. She has also served as principal cellist in symphony ensembles at both Eastman and BU. In addition to being an active chamber musician, Abby is also an advocate for cultural representation in classical music. She helped organize Eastman’s first Hispanic Heritage Recital, featuring works by Latin American composers and celebrating cultural inclusion through performance. In recognition of her artistic and academic achievements, Abby was named the Eastman recipient of the 2025 Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award. Aside from playing the cello, Abby is also a classically trained soprano. She has received recognition in several national and regional vocal competitions, including Hal Leonard, NATS, and Schmidt Vocal Arts. Shortly after relocating to Boston, Abby was appointed as a Choral Scholar at Marsh Chapel, where she has frequently appeared as a featured soloist with the choir. As an Ecuadorian-American she is the first in her family to pursue a career in music, and is very grateful to her family and friends for their continuous support.
