Songs & Stories: An Evening with Mark Cutler and Steve Allain

Step inside the creative process with veteran singer-songwriters Mark Cutler and Steve Allain on Thursday, October 1 at 6:30 pm. This intimate concert brings two seasoned musical forces together on one stage, trading original songs and pulling back the curtain on the stories behind the music. It is an evening built on connection, storytelling, and the inevitable magic of spontaneous collaboration. Free and open to all. Registration required. About Mark Cutler Singer/songwriter/musician, Mark Cutler has made a living as a musician for most of his life. He is a 2015 inductee in the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame for his work with the bands The Schemers and The Raindogs as well as his solo work. The Schemers received national exposure on MTV after winning several New England music competitions. Mark’s work with The Raindogs included experimental collaborations with Iggy Pop and the actor Harry Dean Stanton. The Raindogs toured nationally with the likes of Bob Dylan, Don Henley, and Warren Zevon. Mark has written soundtracks for various independent films. He currently leads The Men of Great Courage, the tiny string band, and performs as a solo artist. Cutler combines powerful lyrics with memorable melodies and driving rhythm and is always working on new material. He spins tales about men who drink alone or hover over a lover. He sings stories about ghosts, pro wrestlers, walking in the woods, walking in the night, being remembered, just being alive and getting used to this. Mark is also the director of The Same Thing Project a songwriting workshop that’s open to everyone. About Steve Allain Native New Englander and veteran singer-songwriter Steve Allain has spent the last 20 years anchoring his musical roots in Barrington. Renowned for his soulful voice, sharp songwriting, and mastery of acoustic blues, country, and folk, Allain has graced legendary regional stages including Club Passim, The Spire Center, and The New England Acoustic Music Festival. His exceptional talent has earned him opening slots for major national acts like The Robert Cray Band, Yes, and Toad the Wet Sprocket. Peers and critics alike have long recognized Allain’s impact on the music scene. The Providence Phoenix notes he has "earned the respect of many notable peers," while The Providence Monthly praises his complex, effortless guitar work, stating he "makes it look easy but it most assuredly is not." Following a successful decade-long run with the award-nominated duo Cardboard Ox, Allain continues to captivate audiences across New England as a solo artist and as a member of Becky Chace and the Silver Linings.
