Hidden Gems in Freedom

Beyond the well-known attractions, Freedom has spots that locals love and visitors rarely find.

Freedom House Antiques

year-round

Housed in a genuine 1860s barn, this treasure trove sprawls across two floors plus an outbuilding, packed with eerie vintage dolls, carnival glass, and White Mountain memorabilia. The creaky wooden floors and musty scent of old ephemera transport you back decades as you hunt through countless themed displays of forgotten collectibles.

Andrews Hill Cemetery

year-round

More graveyard than cemetery, this haunting hillside plot catches your eye as you enter town on Cushing Corner Road. Weather-worn 18th and 19th century tombstones lean at odd angles among scattered boulders, with some inscriptions worn completely smooth by time and several fallen stones creating an atmospheric, forgotten feel.

Snow Roller Shed

year-round

One of only three remaining in New Hampshire, this humble 1901 shed behind the Masonic Hall houses a piece of winter road history. Before snowplows, enormous wooden-slat drums were pulled by teams to pack snow roads smooth as glass. The weathered building earned a spot on the State Historic Register and represents a vanishing piece of New England ingenuity.

Stone Baptismal Pool Ruins

year-round

Hidden behind the 1830 Masonic Hall alongside the Towle Family Cemetery, these weathered stone remains mark where the original church conducted baptisms. The moss-covered foundation stones sit quietly among old graves, a tangible link to Freedom's religious founding when the town broke away from Effingham seeking spiritual independence.
