Hidden Gems in Greenville

Beyond the well-known attractions, Greenville has spots that locals love and visitors rarely find.

Mason Railroad Trail (Greenville Recreational Rail Trail)

year-round

A peaceful 6-mile rail-trail connecting Greenville to Mason that follows the abandoned 1850s railroad bed through deep forest cuts where you can still see drill marks in the stone walls. The trail passes beautiful Pratt Pond and offers solitude that's rare for southern New Hampshire - one cyclist reported seeing moose and encountering hardly another soul. Stone culverts and old granite quarry sites along the route tell the story of when trains carried granite monuments from here to Boston and beyond.

Pratt Pond

year-round

A hidden 25-acre pond tucked away in Russell-Abbott State Forest, accessible via the Mason Railroad Trail. This quiet fishing spot offers largemouth bass, chain pickerel, and rock bass, with old stone walls visible from elevated trail sections and a sense of complete remoteness despite being close to populated areas. The pond sits at the site of the former Pratt Station, where trains once stopped, and offers some of the most peaceful canoeing and fishing in the region.
