Sugar Hill is a tiny White Mountains gem that bursts into national consciousness every June when fields of wild lupines bloom across Sunset Hill, framed by panoramic views of the Franconia Range and Vermont's Green Mountains. Incorporated in 1962 as the newest town in New Hampshire, Sugar Hill has the feel of a place that exists slightly outside of time — a handful of elegant country inns, a white meetinghouse, and Sunset Hill Road's famous overlook where photographers gather at dawn. The Lupine Festival draws visitors from across New England, and the rest of the year the town settles back into its quiet rhythms of ski season, fall foliage, and summer hikers heading to Franconia Notch. With about 650 residents, Sugar Hill offers refined mountain living without any of the development pressure of the larger resort towns.

Coffin Pond Conservation Area

A small, peaceful pond surrounded by forest and meadows with easy roadside access. The shallow waters reflect the sky while belted kingfishers fish from dead snags and wood ducks paddle through the reeds. Fall foliage creates spectacular colors when the maples and birches on the surrounding hillsides reach peak, and the nearby Gale River adds to the serenity.

Streeter Pond
