Intro to Improv is a movement class that is open to all, beginners and beyond! This class is intentionally inclusive - no improvisation or dance experience necessary and all are welcome! In this 4-week series, participants will develop their embodied intuition and creativity in motion. This is a challenge-by-choice offering! Each 60-minute class includes a variety of improvisational structures and movement scores set to diverse soundscapes of (mostly) instrumental music. Intro to Improv includes solo movement as well as (non-contact) partner and small group work. At times we may incorporate objects as props, dance without music or invite participants to engage in sound-making paired with movement. This class prioritizes playfulness, curiosity, exploration and joy. Instructor: TR Barnes Taylor Rae Barnes (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist in movement, language and form. Inspired by storytelling, systems-design and sensory experience, Taylor’s curiosity-centered creative process explores the nuanced, evolving relationships between improvisation, narrative and belonging. Taylor earned her BA in English & Philosophy from Williams College (2013). She performed as part of the Choreo Lab with The Junction Dance Festival (2024). Taylor offers improv dance workshops in the Upper Valley and beyond. She will be a guest artist at The Sable Project in Stockbridge, Vermont in September 2026.
