Swing Handle Berry Basket Workshop with Dona Nazarenko Saturday, July 25, 2026 10:00 – 5:00pm Join us in the Great Stone Dwelling dining room for a full day workshop!  Berry baskets were traditionally hand woven of oak or ash. They were designed to hold individual servings of berries. The traditional swing handle allowed the baskets to sit flush against the body or be nested and hung in root cellars. A Swing Handle Berry Basket has many uses such as for the gardener, or hobbyist and they also make a great storage container. Participants will use natural reed, paired with a wood handle, and can choose to add color accents if desired.  All skill levels welcome.  This square basket measures approximately 6 ½” x 6 ½” x 11 ½” high with handle. Who is Doña Nazerenko? Residing in Tunbridge, Vermont, Doña Nazarenko has been weaving since 1988 and teaching since 1994. While living along the New Jersey coast, Doña developed an interest in woodcrafts and related art forms that developed into her desire to take basket making classes in 1988. Her exploration of a different art medium has since evolved into a flourishing talent. She now enjoys making traditional baskets using reed with wooden accents to more challenging baskets using birch bark from the area surrounding her current residence in rural Vermont. The highlight of the early years at her craft was having a one-on-one critique with John McGuire at Peter’s Gallery in 1992. His confidence in her and his discretion continues to help her with her current work. Today she can be seen demonstrating basketry representing Vermont fiber artists at local and out-of-state events. Most days she can be found working in her studio at Country Spirit Baskets Please bring your own lunch. Water and light refreshments will be provided. Cost: Museum Members – $70 Non-Members – $80 All proceeds go to the educational mission of Enfield Shaker Museum. Coming from a distance? Stay at the historic Great Stone Dwelling.
