Germ Detection! - MilliporeSigma Curiosity Lab
How do illnesses spread and how can we prevent it? Join scientists from our local MilliporeSigma to find out! This activity introduces students to the applied sciences. Applied science is the practical application of science that uses scientific knowledge for specific purposes, like supporting businesses and clients. In this activity, students will model how illness can spread through surface contamination, and how they can monitor the school environment for germs using scientific practices. They will use their learning to explain why a school district in Colorado had to shut down from a Norovirus outbreak. They will come to understand that microorganisms, including bacteria and viruses, can cause illness outbreaks because they can spread easily when infected individuals touch various surfaces. One of the keyways to prevent the spread of these germs in our environment is to maintain proper hand washing. All materials provided, all ages, caregiver required under age 8. Registration required. Choose the 3 pm or 4:30 pm session.
